Indigenous Peoples experience and understanding of menstrual health

Menstrual taboos exist worldwide and often contribute to the significant delay in health-seeking behaviour for dysmenorrhea and other menstrual symptoms, which in turn contribute to the significant delay in endometriosis diagnosis. Cultural beliefs can reinforce these menstrual taboos, and it’s currently unknown what impact these might have on indigenous people’s menstrual health literacy and their health-seeking behaviour. This MRes project aims to identify the extent and range of evidence of menstrual health literacy in First Nations People in the higher-income countries of Australia, Canada, and New Zealand.
