Professor Gerard Bodeker is a researcher and advisor of policy on traditional and complementary medicine and wellness. He serves with NICM Health Research Institute as the International Advisor and also serves as a member of the NICM HRI Advisory Board. An Australian, whose doctoral studies were at Harvard, Professor Bodeker has held research and teaching appointments in Medical Sciences at Oxford University for two decades and a full professorship in Epidemiology at Columbia University, New York.

Professor Bodeker has written extensively on traditional medicine, is editor-in-chief of the World Health Organization Global Atlas on Traditional and Complementary Medicine and serves on the editorial boards of several journals. He has been Chair of the Commonwealth Working Group on Traditional and Complementary Medicine and worked with several United Nations agenciesHe is lead author on a chapter in the Oxford Research Encyclopaedia of Global Public Health (2020) on Wellbeing and Mental Wellness, and he chairs the Mental Wellness Initiative of the Global Wellness Institute in the USA. He co-authored and co-edited an Asian Development Bank book on Wellness for a Healthy Asia (2021) and a Routledge book on Healthy Ageing in Asia (2022). Gerry has also researched Arabian and Islamic wellness traditions and is currently advising on a public health and wellbeing program in Saudi Arabia.
