Deon Schoombie

Advisory Board Member, NICM Health Research Institute

Dr Deon Schoombie is the chief executive officer of the Consumer Healthcare Products Australia (previously known as Australian Self Medication Industry) and joins NICM Health Research Institute as a member of the Advisory Board. He brings a breadth of knowledge with a long history of experience in the pharmaceutical industry including in public policy, advertising, marketing and regulatory issues. Dr Schoombie has also worked in international medical publishing and hospital management and has undertaken post graduate training in traditional Chinese medicine.

He is a strong advocate of self-care and supports the greater personal responsibility in maintaining health and wellbeing. Dr Schoombie believes self-care should be formally acknowledged as an integral part of the public health system and there should be greater recognition for self-medication, including complementary medicines, as an essential part of self-care.
