The Scientific Advisory Committee contributes to the scientific aims, strategic directions and activities of NICM, and in particular:
a) Provides advice on research priorities and programs to further the aims and objectives of NICM.
b) Oversees the scientific rigour of NICM initiatives.
c) Assists in the development of strong collaborative links and research networks (basic and clinical, national and international) to build complementary medicine research capacity, including partnerships between complementary medicine and mainstream health and medical researchers.
d) Oversees the scientific progress of NICM Collaborative Centres and provides advice to the Executive Director and the Council on research progress, outcomes and future directions.
e) Provides advice on research advances and emerging opportunities and the necessary skill and infrastructure requirements to develop and sustain a viable and productive complementary medicine research sector.
f) Identifies expert resource people in research fields relevant to NICM activities.
g) Provides advice on the scientific elements of information resources and communication strategies.
h) Provides advice on strategic plans and expenditure priorities.
