To achieve its goals, NICM requires high level scientific, strategic and business direction and support.  At this early stage of its development NICM is not a separate legal entity and is hosted by the University of Western Sydney (UWS).  UWS is legally responsible for NICM's foundation funding agreements held with the Australian Government and the NSW Government.  The following structures support the Institute's operations:
