Professor Alan Bensoussan
Executive Director
Professor Alan Bensoussan was Interim Director through NICM’s inception and was previously Director of the Centre for Complementary Medicine Research at the University of Western Sydney. Alan Bensoussan has been in clinical practice in Chinese medicine for over 25 years and is an active researcher, attracting funds from international sources (US NCCAM; UK NHS), from the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council, the former Department of Education, Science and Training, other Commonwealth and State government departments (NSW, QLD, Victoria) and industry. Professor Bensoussan is a member of the Complementary Medicines Evaluation Committee of the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration, and has frequently served as a short-term consultant to the World Health Organization. His research and government report on the practice of traditional Chinese medicine in Australia (1996) subsequently led to the passage of the Victorian Chinese Medicine (Practitioner) Registration Act. Alan brings to NICM significant complementary medicine research experience and a successful track record in leadership in the field with a positive impact on relevant public policy.

Ms Suzanne Pierce
General Manager
Prior to the appointment of General Manager NICM, Suzanne Pierce was the Manager of Policy and Operations at the NSW Office for Science and Medical Research, achievements included the establishment of the NSW Clinical Trials Business Development Centre and grants programs. She has extensive government experience at State and Commonwealth levels, in a range of social justice, human service and administrative review agencies and research. Suzanne originally trained as a nurse, has an honours degree in anthropology and has previously undertaken the NSW Executive Development Program. In addition to strategic policy, Suzanne has particular expertise in corporate planning and performance measures and quality systems.

Ms Dimity Pinto
Media and Communications Officer
Dimity Pinto has over 15 years experience in media relations and event management. Her previous role was General Manager of a public relations agency servicing a broad range of consumer clients, including companies that operated in the health and wellbeing sector, as well as government agencies and industry associations. Dimity has extensive experience in developing consumer marketing and PR strategies, and building the underlying systems and networks that underpin them including data base development.
