Friday, 13 November 2009, Swinburne University

Promoting Neurocognitive Health Through the Lifespace.

With our population ageing at a rapid rate, there is an increase in age-related cognitive decline and the number of patients diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.  Many practitioners and consumers are not satisfied with the current pharmacological products on the market designed to 'improve' cognitive ageing.  As such, there is an interest in examining complementary medicines to improve or stablise cognitive functions as we age.  It is important that there is a strong evidence base for the use of these natural medicines and that current research in this area is made available to the public and practitioners.

In this one day symposium, the Brain Science Institute at Swinburne University brings together experts to present recent research on brain ageing, cognition and natural medicines.  It is also an opportunity to network with colleagues and industry partners.  Presentations will include topics such as the basic science principles of herbal research and cognition enhancement in young, elderly and Alzheimer's disease.

Who should attend?

The symposium will be of interest to researchers, practitioners and industry representatives interested in normal and abnormal ageing, cognition and natural medicines.
